October 21, 2025
Following major underground utility upgrades spanning more than 4,000 feet, a smoother drive on Seventh Avenue is coming soon. This final phase of the multi-year utility project along the corridor will begin on Monday, October 27. The improvements along Seventh Avenue represent a more than $3.3 million investment to strengthen critical infrastructure.
Here's a quick checklist of the major milestones that have happened under Seventh Avenue between Centerville Road and N. Gadsden Street ahead of resurfacing the roadway.
- 2023
- Rehabilitated sections of the sanitary sewer with cured-in-place lining (CIPP)
- Reconstructed 80 feet of Cherry Street & Colonial Drive to enhance connectivity to Seventh Avenue
- 2024
- Construction of water utility enhancements to improve system capacity begins
- Upgraded 4,500 ft of existing water main to reduce future maintenance
- Replaced water services and fire hydrants
- 2025 (to date)
- Robust water utility enhancements continued and completed in first half of year
- Ground settling period underway to ensure long-term stability of the new infrastructure
- Active monitoring period and inspection of new infrastructure to ensure operationally functional with no issues (preventing the need to dig up freshly paved roads)
- Milling and repaving scheduled to begin Oct. 27.
As part of this last phase of construction, crews will mill and pave the road between Centerville Road and Duval Street. Work hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, pending no unforeseen circumstances. The roadway will remain open to traffic, with only one lane closed at a time. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert to help maintain a safe work zone for crews. Completion is anticipated by early 2026.
